COVID-19
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and is thought to spread from person to person in close contact through respiratory droplets.
During these unprecedented times, MegaMed is poised and ready to provide critical results and information to frontline healthcare providers, patients, and medical facilities. We are offering COVID-19 testing that is imperative in aiding healthcare provider to identify infected patients accurately and quickly.
Serology
Serological tests measure the amount of antibodies or proteins present in the blood when the body is responding to a specific infection, like COVID-19. The test detects the body’s immune response to the infection caused by the virus rather than detecting the virus itself. Test will help healthcare professionals to identify individuals who have overcome an infection in the past and have developed an immune response.
Molecular
Molecular tests are intended for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in nasopharyngeal swabs from individuals suspected of COVID-19. Real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) assays are used to detect viral RNA in clinical samples and will help healthcare professionals identify individuals who have an active infection.
MegaMed is committed to ensuring that patients and their healthcare providers have access to COVID-19 testing to promote earlier diagnosis and help limit spread of infection.

Comprehensive Food & Environmental Allergy Test
Not so long ago people, including many children, were subjected to hundreds of needle pricks containing different possible allergens to determine which ones caused the strongest reactions. Research conducted in the 1970s has found that when the body experiences sensitivity or an allergy to a substance it produces antibodies that are specific to the allergen, called Immunoglobulin E (IgE) and these can be measured in the blood. A simple blood draw can look for the specific antibodies to hundreds of substances using only one needle.
Used as part of an initial allergy evaluation, the information obtained allows optimal patient management by avoiding unnecessary and costly referrals of non-allergic patients, while allergic patients can be treated sooner and more effectively.
Infectious Diseases
If there is any area of the lab in which the term revolutionary rightly is being applied, it has to be for rapid pathogen identification. This juggernaut of change has profound implications for patient outcomes, the cost and efficiency of care, lab practice, and, most significantly, global antimicrobial stewardship efforts.
“If we can’t rapidly determine whether someone does or does not have an infection and then whether their infection is bacterial or viral, we’ll continue to see widespread use of antibiotics, at times in very inappropriate ways,” explained Angela Caliendo, MD, PhD, chief of general internal medicine at Rhode Island Hospital and executive vice chair of medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University in Providence. “Rapid diagnostics really are a game-changer by helping us determine earlier in a patient’s presentation the need―or not―for antibiotics so we can start implementing treatment modalities that change outcomes. There are all sorts of ways you can see it coming together.”
